I'm searching for a good sturdy pack.I want something I can add to with pals webbing.I want sort of an in between 3 day bag and something that could hold enough to get thru a week if necessary,I would like some input on some good well built bags but don't want to spend a fortune.

I have some experience, and be able to help. However what is your price range??? Not really sure what your idea of "Lass" than a fortune is.

I've no experience with PALS since I don't do tactical gear...however, as a professional river guide I've used for the past decade the NRS Pargon Portage Pack with great success to which I've posted comments about on at another thread...

here's a link for pack....

I've been to gun shows where someone is usually there selling bags to carry weapons like to a range. These bags are usually top quality triple strength nylon webbing, super strong, seversal internal pouches, just a damn fine bag. The price was over 300 bucks but worth it. I didn't buy it because I wanted it as a carry on bag for flying and as it would have been a great fit the price didn't add up to the use it would have gotten......I don't fly THAT much.
In short, get to a gun show or look for bags on gun sites. I've also found in Army surplus stores and online bags used for tank repair tools, a little too small for me though.

I have a Rush 5.11 24 for a work bag and two 72 for GHB/BOB bags. I am greatly satisfied with them. I shopped around on the internet forums and found both 72 bags for just a little over $100.00 new with tags shipped. I have had no complaints at all with my bags. I used a Blackhawk STOMP Medial Bag for a while, but retired it back to a medial bag for which it was intended for. The yoke shoulder straps are comfortable and easy to get on and off on the Rush bags. Hope this helps.

I'm pretty happy with my medium alice. I have made several additions to the basic pack but with frame, pack, additions, i'm still sitting less than $150 spent. Plus it is very versatile in that I can take it off the frame if I want a light day pack for hunting trips, frame it up for multi day hikes. I have added four coyote IFAK pouches on the sides to allow for more stowage.

A very good pack that will hold up with loads 130# to 200# is going to start at $700.00 and could go up to $1,400.00 with two different rain covers.

I just got a medium alice with frame for $46. I spent another $20 for extra pouches. Assembly will be later this week, but I can tell it'll be a good pack.

I bought a sierra designs Prophecy 35 liter a while back. Have been very happy with it. For me its the perfect size. I have some larger ones but they just don't do it for me like this one. The way it zips open and closes is the key. You can fit just about anything in it. They are showing 169$ on backcountry but you should be able to pick one up for around 100$ on ebay. It is super tough material and very light.

It may not be a true 3 day pack but I recently bought the 5.11 Moab 10 found here www.511tactical.com/All-Products/Bags-Backpacks/Backpacks/RUSH-MOAB-10.html . I can get a ton of stuff in there and I think I paid $80 or so on Amazon.

It has become my go to bag. I drag it everywhere with me and it's seen some pretty gnarly stuff and a lot of filthy corners of the world. As far as dimensions go I couldn't tell you; however, I can fit all of this www.wilderness-survival.net/forums/showthread.php?22906-BOB-What-s-Inside inside of the bag and maybe a little more.

I recently purchased a bag at Wal-Mart called the Alpha Ops internal Frame Pack by Fieldline Tactical. The pack was recommended in a survival magazine article. The cost was around $40.00. The dimensions are 21.25" x 13.4" x 8.6" The bag has plenty of room for survival gear and is comfortable to carry. This may not be exactly what you need, but is worth checking out.

The questions are have you used it and how did it work for? You can buy any bag but if it doesn't perform for you then it's not a deal. It might perform for the next person but it has to perform for you.

I think you have to remember that not everyone can carry a 100# on there back and a good pack not only lends itself as a means to carry what you need but also a way to pack out meat and other things you need to bring back to camp. I carried an alice for lots of years in the corps but found it wanting when I started hunting. A good pack with a frame is the best I see for long term survival, and a lot of them can be found at garage sales for little of nothing. It does pay to shop around.

I am a big fan of the Alice setup.... My large pack works well for a over night trip or a week in the woods. Also they do make a item that converts alice to PALS/MOLLE set up.

MOLLE 2 large rucksack is my favorite. I got mine on ebay for 65 bucks yes that was a steal since they usually go for well over a hundred but should still fall in your price range.

Ik that there are molle framed backpacks at the local surplus store for about $75. That gives you plenty of $ for parasite packs and/or pouches. Then again, I don't know how well this translates into reality, since I got a rothco molle medical kit bag for $12 below msrp. :thumbup1:

I could not agree more! I don't know how many people here recall the extreme price drop on Duluth products on Amazon, but I certainly do! I got a #51 canoe pack for less than $35, brand new! It makes a great bag if want a lightweight BOB.

I have a condor 3 day assault pack and a compact assault pack. I like them both a lot. The compact is my day bag, hunting, ghb. My 3 day assault is my weekend up to maybe a week bag. Really the only thing that changes is the amount of food and extra socks, drawers, extra layer of clothes and sleeping bag and pad.
I got them both on amazon. The compact was right around 30-40 bucks and I thing the 3 day was maybe 50. They are pretty tough bags for a pretty reasonable price. I also have several different pouches with MOLLE straps to customize things a bit. However i really don't use them all that much.

I like both of my medium ALICE's. They can carry whatever you need for a decent price. I just got a medium one woodland camo for less than $10, with shoulder straps. It'll beat any other $10 rucksack, in my opinion.

The Voodoo and 5.11 bags are pretty darn good. I have a small 24hr 5.11 pack I like and a Voodoo 3 day pack that is my primary camping pack. Holds everything I need although if I take my sub-zero sleeping bag I have to roll it super tight.

I have been toying with a Overboard pack. Basically a big sturdy drypack. But then I like to go minimal and light for all my 3 day setups. Really the heaviest thing in my 3 day is water depending on how much I bring and bulkiest is sleeping bag, and thats only a 20F+ on.

Been a solid 2 years so totally reworking my 3day bob. Going for light over comfort.

And Hello all its been a very long while nice to see you guys still knocking about.
