Hi guys! I'm just checking in and letting all of you know that you have a new brother amongst you. For the past couple of years, I've been interested about Wilderness Survival, so I hope to learn a lot from you experienced ones!

Thanks for the warm welcome all.

So, a little about myself:
I'm 22 and from northeast Georgia. Most of my time is spent in the classroom, either learning about Biotechnology or tutoring, so I really don't get much time to do anything outdoors. But I'm always willing to learn. Me and a friend are about to buy a HI khukuri, so I'm hoping that will be incentive enough to get us out and going.

Some of my earliest "Wilderness Survival" memories are a bunch of my friends and me attempting to build a HUGE fort out of pine trees and pine needles. Needless to say, our walls only made it to about 2 feet tall and we gave up. A couple of years ago, I made an a-frame shelter out of some trees I cut down and some thick plastic from matresses. It worked very well untill my mother decided that it would be a great place to hang her plants from. And the latest thing I've gotten into, other than knives, is flint and steel. Just see what will be the easiest to catch to start a fire. My friends were very surprised about how long a cotton ball with Petroleum Jelly will burn.

Near Duluth, GA, about 25 miles northeast of Atlanta on I-85. When we (my wife, son, and I) go camping, it's typically past 985, near Clayton County.
