Please let me know in this thread if anything is broken or weird.

Might be a few new features hiding around, some new stuff for the backend.

This is a moderate upgrade, new minor version. If anyone wants to read through the full feature list:

One new thing, is if you wanted to use the forum on a smartphone, there is an app called ForumRunner you can buy for $1.99 (sorry its not free) and the forum will now work with it. Or, it is supposed to. If you do use it on a smartphone go ahead and let me know that if it works, thanks.

The "What's New" button has been moved and doesn't give the nice line-up I used to get.

It did move, what did you have before in the lineup that you lack now though? (it would have reset with the upgrade, so if it was empty that would be why).

So far, the changes I've seen are pretty innocuous. So far - so good.

It's probably going to take some getting used to as the new way of displaying the new posts take up more space than the old method.

If you click the "New Posts" button right below the "Whats New?" button it will look like it used to when you clicked whats new. I am going to have to get used to clicking it instead of whats new button because I like the way it displays the new posts better.

Under quick links you can still click on Today's Posts - still a good option.

Forumrunner seams to be working fine. I posted earlier from my tablet using it, this post is from my phone.

Thanks for adding that function boss.

I only have a Droid...so what's up that the forum doesn't work without an app?
OK, I'll check out the app...

I downloaded Forum Runner, but apparently have forgotten my password. So I'll test it later.

The forum works fine without an app, you can use your tablet/phones browser tool to access it that way on the go... however... the app makes it easier to use from a mobile device.

Opinions on new forum homepage sidebar? The idea is to make it easier to discover new content.

Seems like now "New Posts" only shows activity of the day, about 12-14 threads.
How do I ago about checking the general activity of the last day or two without having to search for a specific thread?

The "What's New" activity feed will show entries as long as the past week I believe.

What I get is individual replies only...at the moment, on top of the list is PVG @ 9:20pm at the bottom, D Nighteyses @ 5:52.

What I'd really like to see is thread titles as shown in "New Posts" but for the last 2 days at least. Can't get that somehow.

I saw nothing wrong with the old format. Why change? To me, it just makes things more complicated. I don't like it!

It really wasn't a major change, from 4.1.5 to 4.2.0, the change we did awhile back from 3.8 to 4.1 was much bigger.

But really, the reason to upgrade software is for security. Hundreds of bug or vulnerability fixes are included in each update.

Understandable.
But is it possible to do that without changing the format especially when it works well?

What do you mean by format?

If you mean the sidebar on the homepage, that isn't endemic to this update, it was a preexisting feature I had never turned on. I thought it'd help find content. It seems to work on other sites, something will catch your eye and draw you in to participate in a thread you might not have otherwise.

This change didn't have many visual formatting changes, but understand it is all inclusive. The upgrade isn't ala carte, you get everything the developer added to the software.

I haven't fully explored it yet, but so far I like it. I see it as very useful when logging on, and it is easily hidden if it becomes bothersome or after it is viewed.
