Just a bit of information on canned butter. If you are interested in storage of canned butter then you can do a Google search for "canned butter". Almost all of the canned butter being sold in the U.S. comes from an Australian company called Ballantyne. They make six different brand names of butter (see pic below).

Be wary of recipes for canned butter that you find on the internet. There are a number of problems with this method. Please see this post for cautionary information.

I haven't been able to find canned bacon in years. It would sure be nice to locate a supplier.

These folks have a lot of hard to find grocery items but even they don't stock canned bacon.

The canned bacon comes from Denmark (I think). It is very salty, so what we do is put it in the frying pan with 2 cups of water, bring it to a boil, pour off the water, excess lard, and salt, then fry.

It's a food spread - about the consistency of peanut butter (nope...does not taste anything like peanut butter) I have tried it. Didn't care for it. I had a Commanding Officer that loved the stuff. Every pizza night (Saturday mid rats) He would have his vegemite pizza. It was funny because all of the junior officers would eat the stuff (didn't want to p*** off the C.O.) while us enlisted guys wouldn't touch it after the first taste.

Is a mid rat in between a small rat and a large rat?

Sometimes.:D 24 hour work days - 4 six hour shifts - 4 meals a day served - breakfast, lunch dinner, mid rats (midnight meal) most times left overs from the first three. Pizza night was always a favorite - mystery meat was probably the least favorite.:D
