Most of my tubular nets are made using the method outlined in my instructions. The slight distortion present in the mesh when the ends of a net are joined in a tube disappears after a few rows and does not create any problem.
Sometimes the rows of a net must be even for utility or appearance. A cast net is one example, the storage bag in the netmaking challange is another.

This tutorial shows a net already in progress. The Working End is on the left. The tail is on the right

Drop Knot
Start with a tail of the cord you are using at least twice the length of the bag you are making. On a support cord, with a clove hitch, tie one less than the number of loops you want in the project. When you tie the tail with the Working End (WE) this will bring the meshes to the desired number.

Tie a half hitch around the tail with the WE (left side of picture) and adjust to that it is the size of the mesh you are tying. Tug on the WE so that the half hitch spills and looks like right side of picture.

Now treat this as if you had just brought the WE through a mesh. Make a bight to the left and complete the hitch (bend) around the two strands. Tony

This drawing shows the action of the working end after the tail is looped around the WE (right photo)

An easier way is to tie a overhand knot with the tail and WE.

Or can ignore the tail completely. When you go from one level to the next include the WE in your sheet bend. This method produces a seam (selvedge) that in no way affects the security of the net. The seam is noticeable if you look for it.

Addition: This last method can also be done at the end of the row. The 3rd strand will be to the right of the loop you are tying into.
