Some of you might not be aware that when Bear Grylls started out he contracted a knife maker in England by the name of Rob Bayley to make a "Bear Grylls" knife. However Mr. Bayley is the only employee in his company and makes his knives one at a time and to order, which is why, back then with the current exchange rate, they were selling for over $700 American! Apparently Mr. Grylls and Mr. Bayley soon parted company and Bear went to Gerber and the rest is history. Of course nobody would pay over $700 for a knife, right? Wrong! Somebody must have, and you can buy it here for about twice what it originally sold for:

Chinese knock-offs of these, BTW, can be had for $40-$50! :smartass:

I can't wait until I can once again buy a Gerber product without it having "BG" all over it. Hopefully Gerber and Bear part company sooner rather than later. I can't stand the thought that anything I would buy from them would go toward feeding Gryll's giant ego and pocketbook.

No need to wait, CW, The knife Gerber is using for the main BG knife is the Gerber Prodigy. Here's one stripped of the BG stuff:

I like my Prodigy, its currently my EDC when camping/hiking although the glass breaker tip annoys me, I get at least one scratch per trip on my hand or wrist from it. That price is reasonable.

It is a nice knife but I like my Crash and Skinner knives better!

Asking that for it may be nuts!

Impressive asking price with no bids.

What YOU think your stuff is worth and what it is REALLY worth are often mutually divergent numbers.

There are only a few knives I would pay that much for in a non-crisis situation. One I can think of would be the Hood-Hoodlum Ron Hood used to film the demo commercials for Buck just weeks before he died.

I would probably go a bit more for Nesmuck's origional belt knife or Kepharts blade if there were creditable documentation with the knife.

For anything with the Bear G logo, etched, stamped or otherwise, $25 and the seller pays shipping.

Not just any old copy of the knife Sarge, but THAT particular knife he used. It would be sort of like owning a Micky Mantle signed rookie card.

Yea, the guy with the Deluth pack was a nut job. A whole lot of myth and bad history in the story he used to try to justify his price.

I own several things with patent dates back to the 1600s, but that does not mean they were made in 1600! Just means that was when the patent was filed.
