When I was stationed at Ft Dum Ny, we had a very cold winter. Planning to go out in the field on a cold crisp morning for a few nights of playing the I am an idiot game, as a Mobile truck wash for the tankers. I told all the guys to pick up pantie hose.
Now for some reason, I knew most would not do it. So I picked up a dozen pairs just in case.
When it got down to oh degrees and the guys started to complain. I told them the pantie hose were helping me stay warm. Even after I gave the last pair out, others were asking if I had some, they could have.
After that all the guys carried them in their packs.
That thin layer of nylon under their wool long johns seemed to add a lot of insulation.
