Was in the woods for maybe 10 minutes the other day and I had ticks all over me. Im tired of em and this year they are BAD in Southern Illinois. What is the STRONGEST most POWERFUL insect repellent on the market?

Deet. It doesn't matter the brand name. I happen to use Off Deep Woods spray, which I think is 25% DEET. The CDC recommends between 30% and 50% DEET. The concentration will determine how long it's effective. 25% is in the 3 hour range with 100% protecting for 12 hours. I've used the Off Deep Woods and been protected all night in Southern Indiana. Having grown up in S. Illinois the regions are very similar in insect problems. If I use it and start getting bitten some hours later I just reapply and I'm good to go. S.Ill. can be crazy bad for tickets. I worked up at Rend Lake one summer and must have had thousands of tickets crawling around. The most I've ever seen in one spot.

The STRONGEST insect repellent will probably kill you too. That is how effective it is. DEET however, won't kill you (right away).

Deet is traceable in the liver in a few moments. If I were worried about ticks, aka Lymes, I'd wear tick proof snug long underwear.

That's pretty much true for aspirin or anything else you take, inhale, place on your skin or inject. That's sort of the job of the liver so one would expect to find it there.

I'm so thankful we don't have ticks, fleas, cockroaches, poisonous snakes or spiders here. Hey there has to be some perks for living in -50.

Yea if you stand IN the fire, I think you'd be good as far as most pests go.

So far the best thing here has been long pants and long sleve shirts sprayed down with permitherin. I was using Deet and still found some ticks crawling on my legs so lately unless I'm in taller grass or the woods I just don't bother and check really good for any that might be ttrespassing.

BTW flame does work. I found a tick on my shirt last week so I got it in some tweezers and BBQ'd it with a lighter. I was hoping any of it's friends or relatives would hear it's little screams and move on.
Stupid ticks.
Yeah, it's personal.....:sneaky2:
