View Full Version : Phoenix Rising -- Symbol of Survival

I saw this driving along a rural road and I couldn't pass it up without snapping a pic.

An old and half-rotted tree was severely storm and lightning damaged. The cleanup just involved chainsawing and hauling away everything but the stump. Somehow, one of the tree's seeds ened up in the stump, and left a real life symbol of the Phoenix rising from the ashes.

Whaddaya think? Is this also symbolic of the survival mentality?

That is an outstanding pic......does say it all on attitude.

Now that said, I had to cut a tree to change my driveway at "The Place" so as to get the cabin hauled down the hill....not that big, but close.

I can not kill that stump, been 7 years of sprouts......just goes to show, that one persons "cool" in another's PITA.

Yep, like Hunter said, anyone that has ever fought the "suckers" sprouting off stumps for years at a time will have their own opinion.

You look at that and see a survival mindset, I look at it and think "What, Again? I thought I killed you!"

I had some poplars on one place that you simply could not kill. They would sprout from the roots once the stump was grubbed out.

It's more like a Freddy Kruger movie, where you just can not kill it, than an episode of Man/Woman Wild where they live happily ever after.

Hunter63, If you burn it out with old oil it will kill the thing and you wont have to fight with it any more. just a suggestion.

Really can't..... too close to the road, black top, on the right of way.
Town crew hits it with the brush hog real regular....I shoot it up with "death from above" juice......evey year.

You don't have to be the biggest or the baddest just the most persistent. Of course if you ARE the biggest and the baddest and persistent then remind me not to get on your bad side.

Sitka spruce trees sprout and grow in the dead branches, logs and stumps left behind. It give them food and shelter while they are still young and as the older tree decays makes for some interesting root formations. Sure, it could be symbolic of a survival mentality. Thake the worst life throws at you and build from there.

An adaptation of a by-now-famous Yogi Berra quote: "If Cowboy doesn't want to refer to himself in the first person, ain't nobody gonna stop him..."

[Having conferred, considered and generally debated this, we agree...]

Well, since this thread had already been derailed I'll share my first thought when I saw the title.

I was reminded of a woman that I had met. She had decided that due to some things she had overcome in life that she wanted a symbol of rebirth.
She decided that a phoenix rising would be very symbolic and meaningful. But she wanted it on her lower back. All her other friends thought it was wonderful. I had to be the one to point out that she may want to rethink it because it would appear that she had a phoenix rising out of her a$$ crack.

Cowgirlup was not very popular in that group from that point on. But she would have wanted someone to point that out to her should she decide to put a tat like that in a similar place.
