View Full Version : Fire by Rock
Wildwoods Survival is just a wealth of knowledge and I thought you might like to see this article on different types of rocks to start fire with. It might expand someone's ideas on fire starting and could even save a life. Imagine sitting on an outcrop of granite and freezing to death because you had no flint.

I still have trouble w/ the flint and steel. I'm just not patient enough.
I seriously doubt granite is going to work. Maybe granite mixed with something else but granite by itself, doubtful. Just knocked several inches out of a hunk of granite that had decided it wanted to be in a trench I was digging and out of hundreds of blows (iron and steel tools) I never saw a single spark.

Har har! Sounds like military talk to me. :)
Anyway, that's a good site. I think that's the guy who made fire from an ice ball he made.
I can't believe he lit a fire from a spark created from sandstone. Bizarre.
