Here is a Gunslinger I just finished up.
I have made quite a few of these, the customer wanted the long spine with the filework all the way. I wasn't crazy about it, but its all about the customer.
OAL 9.5"
Blade 5"
388 Layer Damascus from Alabama Damascus
The guard I forged from a Bolt the customer gave me, then I cold blued it. He owns a shortline RR in Oregon and said the bolt came from a RR Bridge built in 1933.
He also gave me the date nails for the handles.
The scales are Spalted Maple.
I made the sheath too.

I think he is saying nicely that this group is more about usable blades than art work or fantacy knives. That is not a knife I would commission or carry but is is an excellent blend of materials and is finished immaculately.

Good workmanship stands on it's own merit.

Little D - Did you join the nail heads in some fashion? I really like that detail. It looks almost like a rivet or screw. With the first pics you posted I thought the nail head was just on one side. I didn't pick up there were two of them. That's some beautiful work.

Really nice work D. The whole job looks like each piece was made for the other. Knife and leather work look good together is what I'm saying.

"Little D" .....Thats funny , you must have watched my Videos.....

There is a hole all the way through the handle, but they are only conected with the black epoxy I used so set them in. Each head has a 1/16" hole through the shank, to give it a mechanical bond as well.

Nice nice. I love Alabama Damascus. Probably the best you can get these days unless you make your own, and then it depends on the smith.

I haven't yet spent any coin on that quality of metal though, I'm not up to that skill level. May never be.

BTW, my daughters friend was in here and he loves it. I passed on your contact info, but no idea if he can afford such stuff. He works in a factory that makes those ropes for tying up big boats (ships) and is built like a fire plug. Bout as high thick and wide in same proportions. needs a big grip on his blades. I'm trying to make up one for him. I'll trh to get one of my not good photos so put it up and share. T.
