First one is a plant that grows all over my area in northern California. It grows near the Sacramento delta in marshy alkaline sandy soil.

Second one. Two of these trees are growing by my house on the rocks of the levee in the Sacramento delta.
Kind of looks like cherry to me but I don't ever recall any cherries...

That's awesome thanks guys. How sure are you its willow? I'm not good with trees but I thought it looked like a willow by the way it was growing and the flexibility. But I thought there was no way because there are no other willow trees here. It could be an apple a neighbor has 5-10 apple trees nearby, i'll have to compare them tomorrow.

Lol

Any way to extract salicin or acetlysalicyclic acid from the willows?

Also, what's a good way to harvest inner bark without killing the only one around. I know no circumferential cuts/removal of bark or i'll kill it. But what about a top to bottom strip of maybe 25%?

Willow contains Salicin, aspirin is made from this. I was wondering if there was any way to refine this to more than just chewing on some willow.

And I want to know how to harvest bark/ branches without killing the tree.

Refined salicin becomes salicylic acid and can cause stomach ulcers. Chewing the new twigs does not cause the irritation. Taking whole plants as a treatment is very different than taking any one of it's refined parts. This is one of the cases where the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts.

The first one looks like a gourd of some type. Similar looking to squash leaves and vines.
The second looks like a plum, pear, or apple. Leaning toward apple.

#1 is a variety of Mallow or Malva parviflora L."

I'm having difficulty finding a good link for identifiers such as leaf size to pin down a specific variet . There seems to be variations in leaf size and the depth of the scallop around the edge. It is an introduced species and is all across the US I have some in my back yard but haven't found a near identification it until now. Like I said there seems to be different varieties and i prefer to better understand a plant before I use it. It is an edible and a medicinal. I would recommend using this info as a starting point to positively identify your plant. By the way I read an article about heavy metals found in this plant harvested along a highway in California. Just saying that if you harvest in polluted areas its likely in the plant.
Here ia a link to one site.

Refined salicin becomes salicylic acid and can cause stomach ulcers. So would taking a bunch of acetlysalicyclic acid (Aspirin). According to wiki it has many medical uses. How does someone refine it?

Girlfriend should love having that to rub in my face, that's what she said it was. I bought her a plant ID book but it's awful and I don't trust it. That sucks about the metals the whole delta is full of mercury. I still have to find a place to test some water sample...and now plants...
