i put the filler stuff in the bottom (sleeping bag, extra clothes) and the heavier stuff towards the top. i stack some of my food and matches in my pot or anything else that allows for condensed storage. and i put it on by putting my arms through the back straps. i find that it stays on best that way. i think thats what you wanted... well, minus my sarcasm

Depends on if it is a Moose, a Dall Sheep, a "green" Brown Bear hide; or a tired "Ranger", that needs to be Backpacked out. Just having fun, don't have a cow. One of the most impressive backpacking feats to me is the loads that Oriental Women backpack up Mount McKinley.

I hope I don't have to go into a long discourse on how I load up the pygmies when I'm setting off on a safari, all you bleeding hearts will start feeling sorry for them again. Trust me people, they're well paid!

Back pack...let's see...try and put little stuff inside big stuff, keep the stuff I'm going to need first on closest to the top or in outside pockets, bedroll tied on underneath...swing it onto shoulders and away we go ( you know, I really have to think about this now....)

Set the pack down upside down, grasp the little should straps firmly, pull up over the head and down onto the back. If you're pack is HEAVY you can't get the other strap on trying to slide it on one strap at a time. I've had an Alice that you could chase in circles all day and never get on without help. Over the head is the only way to get a heavy one on. But, as I said, I don't do heavy any more. The other thing is once you have them well trained you can just snap your fingers.
