Finally pulled the Trigger...

I have an older Nissan 510 truck that has a transplant Z24 motor..4wd and 33" tires. It is a strong truck, I gave 300 bucks for it 11 yrs. ago. I have barely driven it due to carb issues, it has a feedback carb with no computer on board. I just pulled the plug on a Weber Racing 32/36 DGEV synchronous 4 barrel downdraft carb! Brand new in the box from Weber! It is on now son!

At some point, Dad took off the backflow carb and put on a Weber also, but it dropped fuel economy so I went back to the old carb. I love that truck and I've had a couple offers on it that I really thought were a joke. No way I'd let that truck go, except for an ungodly amount of money. Gonna be my kick-around truck for hunting and fishing and general trailblazing. I've replace the Tranny twice if that tells you anything about where I drive it haha! (busted out two teeth on one of the swaps...)

I went to the Weber because the downdraft carb on it was a "feedback", needs a computer to act right and the non-feedback remanufactured units seemed to only be r22 and not the Z24 not knowing if the flange was the same I selected the weber for the z24 in non-feedback. Not bad at all 259$ new in the box.

Spent the afternoon watching a mud-racing truck based on a older jeep...being built from the ground up........some guys just never grow up....LOL

Had a 1980 King Cab, when the head gasket blew at 48,000 miles I said screw it and dropped my spare 240-Z engine into it. Had to change the bell housing and move the radiator forward of the cross member. Damn would she move then! and got the same gas milage as that crappy 4 banger.

After lifting one of any of the trucks mentioned and throw some bigger tires on it, whats gas milage look like? I have a full size truck but am thing about getting a smaller truck to save some $$$'s, but I really have the urge to lift it up. I know nothing about imports , have been eyeing a ford ranger also.

4wd = marginal gas mileage at best. My '87 blazer with throttle body fuel injection and 33's did just as well as my '99 Z71 5.3 liter stock. Gears have alot to do with it. 3:42 was the best gear I found for 33" tires. My '77 with 33" tires and an edelbrock ate gas, but I also had 4:11 gears. I'd say gear ratio is the most important factor when large tires are considered. I don't have numbers for you on the datsun. I'll say that setup right you could expect the same gas mileage as your stock fullsize at best.

LOL......Gas mileage?...Gas mileage?...That coming from a Texas boy?.......What the heck does gas mileage have anything to do do with anything?
DD has her jacked up Bronco II for sale.,, 6 cylinder...move-up to a bigger mud truck, w/a big block......Gas Mileage?

Hunter.....it'll be a daily driver and I put on around 100 miles a day minimum, if it was just a play truck mileage would be meaningless. I'd love a 1 ton with a skyjacker liftkit but it wouldn't do me much good if I couldn't afford to drive it:)

I hear ya....just messing with you...but you have to admit 4 X 4, big tires and a jack job is not good for gas mileage........I don't care how you cut it, toys cost money, big tires are not conducive to be driven on the road.

The key to any ANY efficient vehicle is matching up the parts. Dad always said The parts were better matched from the factory than I'd ever get it again after changing just one thing on the vehicle from stock to different than stock, be it tires or carbs or headers......He was right 10K later it still needed another part changed because of the prior changes I had made. You have to PAY to PLAY!

That is a true statement.
The factory build them to start and run with little or no maintenance, fro 100k miles for 10years.......be it 130 degrees to -60 below, by anyone that can turn a key and hit the gas.....Not so with custom or race truck/cars/cycles....they are made to do one thing well, go fast thru whatever you want to run them thru....Yes speed cost money.

Thankfully I have kinda out grown it...I think, more into tractors and real estate, lately.

I outgrew it 3 times in 20 yrs. I am a sucker for how fast my hands can make me go....here we go again....When I was 20 something. I built an '83 Camaro....350 cu. in. w/ an 800 cfrm Rochester....3:23gears and and got 28 mpg. from the swamp to N.M. w/14" 50's out back on them little bitty primaries. Might of well been a personal best but we will see.....

This is what I have been up to this week, I am pleased with the progress and considering doing a full out rebuild. So far......I didn't hot tank the intake like I usally do...I cleaned it myself using Liquid plumber (Muratic Acid) and the dishwasher...hehe the dishwasher is clean too! I followed it with Baking soda to stop the reaction...She is over 30 yrs. young born in '81.

Well she was stuck pretty good, The starter turned her about 1/4 revolution and she locked up tight (I suspect fluid locked) tried pulling her gear with another truck to no avail. So I got out the 24" pythons...

Nice. I have really been thinking about a Weber for my Tercel 4WD. Curent carb is in OK shape, but just a bit more umph on the hills would be nice (except mileage may suffer).
