I'm asking if we could get a forum called something like "The Workbench" or "The Craftshop" a place to discuss things like making your own knife from files, or forging them, or from saw blades like Kid does, or making things like bags, stoves, or other items for survival.
Beo,

Sounds like a great Idea but you could have just asked Chris rather than doing a poll ya frig'n goofball.

wouldn't this be like the "primitive technology" forums though? cause that is pretty much what it is. I suppose this would be more of an advanced version then or something

Like myself, the Kid uses power tools and Saw blades to create his knives, etc.

That's not primitive technology.

I make my own chisels and carving knives. I generally make anything I can't beg, borrow or steal mainly because I am cheap and I could use some pointers cause I can't run fast enough to steal anymore.

Alright, I suppose this section would be a good idea. It would be helpful for me as well because I like knowing how to make stuff.

SO....in about well less than five minutes, I've seen threads on making electricity, the fact that some of us are making knives out of saw blades, hence not primitive technology, and a request on making snowshoes. Wouldn't all of those items be a perfect fit for the sub-forum as requested? Isn't that the kind of thing we're talking about?

Beo

So are we gonna get the forum?
And bro, your signature should read: His name was Beowulf, and they say he wanted to be a woodsman but he was a big azz goofball. The story goes that he was a man of dim witts and nervous spirit, suited to the suburbs and city life. Nobody knows where bouts he come from and it don't seem to matter much cause no one gave a crap. He was a young man and ghosty stories about the tall hills scared him so he stayed in the burbs. He had French Tulle .62 caliber but he was a crap shot and would have starved if not for the Cheyenne warrior Medicine Wolf who fed him and then chased him back to the burbs with his wife, son, and there beige volvo where he works 40 hours or more a week to get a fake gold watch after 30 plus years of serving as a cop for people who don't appriecate him:D

why do we not have the new forum yet? should someone PM chris?

Chris
02-13-2008, 03:43 PM
I don't think it justifies a new forum, but rather I can rename the "Primitive Technology" forum to include it. Otherwise there would be topical overlap. "I want to post about making a knife handle out of antler, where do I post? Primitive Technology or Workbench?"

Name ideas? Maybe...

Tool Crafting & Primitive Technology

Survival Tools & Crafting

???

Beo
02-13-2008, 03:45 PM
Sounds good, but we weren't talking about just primitive things, other things such as bags, stoves, etc. but that will work.

crashdive123
02-13-2008, 03:46 PM
I think that the workbench idea is a good one. I have noted however, that the title of a topic or forum has never prevented us from talking about whatever we ..... what was I saying?

trax
02-13-2008, 05:03 PM
Just call it technology...or "making stuff", the thread titles within can determine whether it's more primitive or contemporary.

CTracker
02-13-2008, 08:55 PM
I think crashdive123 made a good call. Pretty much sums it up, "survival isn't about easy (http://www.wilderness-survival.net/forums/showpost.php?p=26490&postcount=25)."

Gray Wolf
02-14-2008, 06:33 PM

Chris I think the Primitive Technology Forum and the concept of the Workbench Forum are two different animals (so to say). Where you would post the question about the Antler handle would depend on how and what the knife blade is made of... I personally don't want to lose the Primitive Technology Forum. But I'd like to share ideas with other members on new creations or modifications using powertools and new high tech materials too... JMHO
