Here's my advice if you're carrying a survival book with you out into the wilderness. Buy a cheap one with newsprint paper on the pages. Those expensive ones with glossy pages don't light as easily. It may serve you well if you need to get a fire started and the less money you've spent on it, the better you'll feel about watching it go up in smoke.

They're also good for wiping when out in the woods, gotta have some tp no matter where you are :D

I carry a pocket Bible. When St Peter asks me "What are you doing here?" I can pull it out of my pack and tell him "I am looking for a quiet place to read". If he leaves me along long enough, I might be able to sneak back before he knows I am gone!

Sometime a or the good book makes a great ending to a long day. If you learn a new trick or technique you can use, all the better. (For TP just look for leaves of 3. JOKE)

By the way, the thin paper in a pocket Bible wads up nice and burns hot.

Okay.....Don. I'll be stepping away very slowly. Don't want that lightening hitting around me.

And for the Big Guy... I don't burn any part of your book. No, sir. Don't need to get warm that bad. Don't want to stay warm for eternity by doing it. We don't even talk about the TP portion. Nope. Not me. Them over there (Pointing at Don).

Burning the Good Book? Are you nuts, that's survival in a place I don't wanna try it in, and the odds ar stacked against you to fail at it for eterinity.

Returning, St Peter: Boss wants to know why you didn't go ahead and use that book he left you to start a fire, there's about a billion more copies available. He mentioned something about "helping those who help themselves"

I agree with trax, The bible is no different from other books in production or in the way that a company will get money from selling them. I think that if god loves us all and is as forgiveing as the bible itself says he is then he wont mind you burning pieces of paper

Not a great firestarter, but I carry the multi-service SERE laminated flipbook in my pack. It's a Cliff's Notes compilation of Army, Navy, AF & Marine manuals.

ive done that...not intentionally because i dig my hair, and when you burn it it dosnt take to the flame very long...

Secondest: RR is probably going to see any animal he wants with what he's smokin'. No offense there RR. Dandelion leaves will do that to you.

I don't care how cold it is there is always something that will burn in nature you just have to look for it. And Tony when typing God the "G" is supposed to captialized, and the Bible is different from other books in that it is God's word not just some book. But you were right Rick was going to go for the Haggis line saw that coming.

The reality is, I'm not going to be out humping around in the bush with a Bible anyway, but if it's cold enough out, I'm going to burn the first thing available to get the fire going. And I've been out plenty of places where you're going to care about how cold it is, go look back on the thread about starting a fire in a blizzard. I thought God forgave people, must be my mistake, guess that makes me an indifel or even an infidel.

I'm not saying I wouldn't burn it, between death and burning the Good Book I choose to burn it. I also agree I don't take it trekking either, but Trax, bro, you know there are always things to burn out in the forested areas no matter what the weather, I didn't say it would be easy, I said there are things out there to burn. You are no infidel your the President of Traxistan so you get to decide who the infidels are, a perk to being the boss man:D
