I don't know about quality, but if you want - I'll make one for you.

What is a PLB?

Personal locator beacon.

Why does it have to be leather? Personal choice?

Rick

Well, that's kinda what I was thinking. I would think you want it in a waterproof case.

A simple rectangle pouch? I can do one for ya if you don't take crash up on it. Just let me know your belt width.

Beacons are already weatherproof.

Are they water resistant or waterproof?

Why not consider something like this?

Light weight, and totally waterproof.

Locator beacons are for when they need to recover your drowned body. They are weatherproof.

ETA- the ones I have seen. Pretty solid package.

Take a look at a small point and shoot camera bag/belt pouch. Or a GPS bag/belt pouch.

I just fear they would not hold-up to rugged abuse, I think the leather would be too soft and thin.

I would think you'd want that rascal on you at all times so something that attaches to your belt or callouses might serve you better. I thought about the strap on your pack but that wouldn't do you any good at night in the tent after the bar had stomped on you for a spell.

Maybe find an older meter case or instrument case. Many of them were leather and fairly stout.

I have enough 13 ox leather for this sd. It would have to be sewed on the outside because it;s too think to fold inside out.

I want to wear it all the time, even in the cabin. Yes, I want to wear it on my belt.

Well - I didn't take pictures of the entire process, but here it is. It is made from one piece (excluding belt loop) of leather. I used a fairly heavy weight leather. The sides are three layers thick, while the front and rear are two layers thick. It may not be pretty, but hopefully it is Alaska tough. I did discover that sewing and tying knots with two pair of needle nose pliers is a real PITA. The leather has not been stretched, so if you need to fine tune it - just wet it a little from the inside and stretch it. I'll get it in the mail tomorrow.

Block of wood? I'll have you know that that is a PLB (Personnel Locator Board). It's to be used in those dark rooms where you need to "locate" somebody. Unholster it and chuck it at their head. When they cry out you have just located personnel with a board. Block of wood? Ha!

Thanks Crash, it looks just like my face, rugged leather with lots of stitches, wrinkled yet strikingly handsome. Rough around the edges, but still functional.
