Sweet - I like. What kind of range do you get to a tank of gas?

The reason I ask is I learned the importance of range on a single tank of gas when evacuating and returning from Hurricand Katrina. I had to drive from Florida to Louisiana (over 300 miles on back roads with lots of detours, as all the major highways were impassable.) No one had electricity, so the few remaining gas stations that actually had any gas could not pump it out of their tanks. I barely made it, so I added an extra gas can carrier to the bumper. I have since purchased a new bug out vehicle and an Aliner and added a gas carrier on the back to extend the range. I could carry more gas inside my camper if needed, but I would have to turn everything off inside to avoid the danger of an explosion.

What the @#$# is that?
Chip. He keeps gas in the camper.
Well, one things for sure, when he lights that baby up he can sure get some altitude.
True.

Yep, carrying gas inside a closed camper would have to be a life or death emergency situation for sure. There are few scenarios that would justify taking a chance like that, but they would all be either before, during or after a major disaster, if not an apocolyptic one.

Here I go to crazy town again! We all know another Katrina/Gustov type 1-2 storm punch could never happen again. Neither could the supervolcano at Yellowstone erupt, or a meteor strike, a major earthquake or tidal wave hit, the mississippi river flood, a nuclear accident occur, etc.. And we certainly couldn't experience civil unrest due to an economic meltdown (like what is now happening in England), race riots, flash mobs, food riots (from truck strike, fuel shortage, ice storms, etc.). Nor could we have multiple coordinated terorist attacks killing thousands of Americans (like 9/11), only this time blowing up one of over 100 chemical plants or 3 nuclear plants located within 100 miles of my house. They would never think to derail one of the many trains traveling from said plants daily, carrying thousands of tons of highly toxic chemicals. Although I'll concede that the possibility of any one of these natural or man made disasters occuring are miniscule, when all the posssible temporary collapse of society scenarios are considered together (which may require a self-sufficient bug-out for more than a single tank lof gas) the chances may be greater than one might imagine. One may argue that experiencing several such situations in the past (I lived through 4 major hurricanes, seen the destruction of my home town, New Orleans and the MS Gulf Coast twice, a major earthquake and the Rodney King riots in LA too) may cause me to overestimate the probability of a major disaster/social collapse occuring - and that may well be true. However if experience is the best teacher, I'm a fast learner, regardless of the statistical calculations on a sheet of paper.

"And we certainly couldn't experience civil unrest due to an economic meltdown (like what is now happening in England)"

Huh? That has nothing to do with the economy. Why, that's crazy town talk.

And in other news.....

Terrorists have derailed a train in Abita Springs, Louisiana resulting in widespread evacuation. We take you live to Wendy Breeze on the scene.

"I'm here with Chief Ember of the Abita Springs Fire Department. Chief can you tell us what the train is carrying."

"Sure. We have several tank cars of crawfish etoufee one of which has ruptured. We're in the process of containing the spill. We also have several box cars of Trappey's Cut Okra as well as Louisiana Hot Sauce"

"We there any injuries?"

"We found the conductor face down in the etoufee with a large spoon."

"Why the evacuation?"

"We didn't want to share."

I say again, you're a funny guy, Rick. :) Hmmmm.. a Tabasco sauce rail car spill might just evacuate the neighborhood - and season all the critters it kills at the same time. Well at least we wouldn't go hungry.

I sorta think the situation causing the riots in England and elsewhere are due to the economic pressure caused by run away, failed socialism. When the govt. can no longer afford all the freebies the people have become accustomed to like: free health care, free education, interminable unemployment, etc. (combined with the repressed job market that socialism produces) we have the social unrest we see across Europe. It's what will happen here if the tea party makes good on their promise to cut back on bloated size of govt. and trim social programs - all in an effort to save such programs in the long run. Alas, when those here stop receiving their govt. checks (or when the amount they receive get's cut) we will see the same things happen here as folks take to the street in violent protest, except many here have guns - so it will be far bloodier.

What do you think is causing the riots, Rick? The lame "police abuse of power" excuse? Heck, that's nothing compared to the abuse of power we have right here in New Orleans. I guess we're used to it though. ;)

Actually, I think it was a gang member that got shot. The rest just needed a new flat screen TV and an excuse.
