I have now worked for the same company for a continuous 20 yrs. at 38 yrs. young! Actual service date was 7/11/91 but, it was recognized today at work. Told the boss..."Well shoot now I need a new goal to meet!" :whistling:

Quite an accomplishment for anyone at any age. It's just great!
I honestly don't know a soul who has worked at the same place for that long.

Thanks Benesse! I am proud of my accomplishment! Would you believe I am happy to do what I do.......?

Then you're truly blessed, CS.

Congrats, CS!! I did 30 years for the same company and was happy to go to work most days. Providing for my family was something I enjoyed doing and I sense providing for that little girl is the same for you. I just always thought that's what a dad does. 20 years is a great milestone. Worthy of a raise? :whistling:

Congrats! That 20 year point sure is a milestone. I went a hair over 20 years, then decided to do something else. Tried a couple of things and am now back to sorta-kinda doing what I did before (abet with another agency and in a different role). Took me a few years to realize that I really missed a good portion of the job.

Just retired from the Forest Service last week with 37 Years, 10 days. It all went in the blink of an eye. Enjoyed most days and it was a great career that let me travel all over the country on fire details.

That's good stuff CS. I honestly expected to be filthy rich by now, hahaha.

Good thing my retirement plan is to be dead.

In this day and age that's truly an amazing feat. I don't believe any of the companies I worked at 20 years ago or longer are still in business.

That's great CS! It really helps if you enjoy your job and your employer appreciates you enough to notice.

Congrats, 20 years is a accomplishment these days.
I used to get asked, back in my shop days, what the definition of a "old timer" was.........My best answer was... When you have worked in a place longer than you haven't work there.

In my world your never an old timer at 38...but when you can tell a 15 yr. top welder how to square up a 2500lb. weldment his boss wants to scrap and he semi agrees and it works...Your just valuable....

A truly great accomplishment. There's not many folks can say that, for one reason or another.

I'm half way there. I've been filthy a few times.

My late wife had put in 25+ years at the same hospital before she passed away.

They still called her the "new girl".

Her boss had just passed 37 years service and was only 54 years old. There were a couple of women at her hospital that had passed the 50 year service mark.

It is rare in these times, but some places still value experience and loyalty.

My boss is a peach of a guy. I like him so much that I'll probably work for him until I'm done working. Yeah, sometimes he can be a little demanding. And it's true that sometimes he really does seem clueless. Probably a given that he is a slacker at times. He used to cuss like a Sailor, but has cleaned that up. Sometimes I wish that he would stop commenting on every little detail of what I do. Overall, he's OK though.

Twenty years sounds a mighty long time!

I got laid off in February from a computer programming job of 4 years and 8 months. Just shy of 5 years and pension vesting. My job went to a consulting company in India. Now starting to look for work again after some time off and traveling.

Any one these days should expect to have several jobs in his/her lifetime.
20 years is a long time, but more than likely any job is not guaranteed, or at least in more danger that in the past.

One should keep his mind and options open for new opportunities.

Seems to me that hands on service work is still a marketable skill as you have to be there to do it.
At least that was my line of thinking when I went from a factory job (33 years shop/and staff) to a HVAC Service Tech (learned skill).

You left out the part about him being accident prone. LOL

Just be careful. In my case that 15 year old was the Boss's Son. He got to keep working at 5 times my pay, and I got laid-off. (Best thing that ever happened to me though).

CS, 20 years is a long time for sure. At the shipyard that I work at, the average age of the mechanics is 48 years old, and I would guess the average time of service is very close to 20 years. I enjoyed almost every day of my working life there until the last 6 months, now not so much, but not that long until retirement. I have been there almost 37 1/2 years, will have 40 when done. Good luck, and hope your company treats you well.
