Well I have been wanting a light "Four" Season shelter system. And with the 40% discount direct from the Golite Company, I opted for the SL3 "Nest" & system...

SD, I have an umbrelia and skeeter net I could have loaned you a lot cheaper.

But it does look like a usable rig.

Light weight lone pole.
Like the weight specs....

SD - I'm curious what you see as the advantage over a TeePee style vs a rectangular or dome style.

No tent pole for one, which also means no broken tent poles from 80 MPH wind. You use your walking stick for a pole, or if you want to go pole-less in the woods there is a loop you can hang it from. The real big advantage is it takes much higher wind abuse, and weighs about 1/3 of a tent. I will not carry the nest, I will only carry the 1 1/2 pound outer fly for emergency use on day hikes alone off trail (Which is most of my hiking). Much of the country that I like to hike is way above timberline so there is NO-way to build a debris shelter.

My plan is to do more hiking, and the SL3 and my 2 1/4 pound sleeping bag and that tinfoil biivy bag thing should get me through the night. I really need to spring for a SPOT locater thing, for extraction when injured. Als I wanted w four season tent system. The biggest thing is weight & wind resistence.

Thanks. I wasn't thinking about the wind but I can see the advantage there over a rectangular.

I like the style. Seems like it lets some air in to keep you comportable. Wouldn't mind having one just like it, it'sa good shelter butnot closed in like a tent. Don't sleep in a tent unless I have to, like to sleep outside but in a rain storm that would be better than my garbage bag lean-to. Usually when I am sleeping under the stars it is in the Western States during the summer and we don;t get any rain. In Florida you sleep out in the "winter", a lot cooler then.
