Recently I decided to add canned corn as well as a bottled peanuts to my truck kit. Any ideas or suggestions for less bulky or heavy packages?

MRE's (shortened shelf life if your vehicle gets hot), Mountain House (or other freeze dried/dehydrated meals), peanut butter, energy/breakfast bars, breakfast cerial (individual serving boxes), trail mix, gorp.......

If you store something that requires re-hydration, store extra water beyond what you store for drinking.

You can always dehydrate those canned veggies if you have a dehydrator. APAKS are the civilian version of MREs. They are made in Evansville, In. by a producer of MREs for the military. Not too shabby. The meals come with a heater.

Corn never tastes the same after its been dehydrated. Neither do carrots IMO.

Raisins might be a good choice for a truck kit also. Peanuts and raisins would go great as a mix! As for canned corn...I'm not a fan of that crap! I would have to agree with Crash and go with dehydrated.

Tootsie rolls. They don't melt in the heat. The sugar in them will dissolve if they get wet but you can keep them in your truck and not wind up with a gooey mess.

How long would they hold you though if you needed food?

Hey...if you end up in a survival situation, you could eat the corn at least twice.
I don't care how much you chew it, it comes out in whole kernals, the first time!:munchies:

Just be careful with tootsie rolls--don't chew or you'll loose a filling when you can least afford it.

Don't forget M&Ms! They were originally made during WWII to supplement the canned rations that the military used...and they withstand heat pretty good as well.

I can't do raisins they give me a loose BM, And that's the last thing I would want on a survival situation.

We used corn as trout bait back when I was a kid, I suppose (yeah, this is gross) that you could re-use the corn for fishing bait and get a meal that way...

For carp and catfish you wouldn't have to remove the corn just use it as is.

...and eat the fish, that ate the corn, that you ate?
If the corn was still in the fish when you ate it, do you think it would come out whole, again? LOL

That was my exact line of thinking with the corn..
To make it more digestible, corn was soaked in lye and washed in a basket to remove that skin. I have the process in a cookbook here called "How I Make My Bread". http://www.amazon.com/Cherokee-Cooklore-Make-My-Bread/dp/B000PKC1KW

Theres a random reference for ya!
