You might be interested in Ashley's Book of Knots. It's a bit pricey but it has some 4000 knots including whipping knots which is a common method of wrapping handles.

Here is a diagram for a couple of whipping knots. The first two pics show with loop and without. The last two show you how to finish either knot.

Sarge - The sticky will tell him what things he can use paracord for but not how to tie the knots, which is what I think he's looking for.

Sam - You can also google whipping wraps or whipping knots and get a ton of information.

You can use that stuff for just about anything. For bigger things you want to make I would learn lashings. All of the small things are knots and whippings.
