yes, though i prefer the rabbit stick. i've had more practice and therefore, more success. the rabbit stick is also generally more easily obtainable aswell.

the winning characteristic of the bola over the latter is it's effectiveness with game it might not mannage to stun, owing to it's added entangling properties.

I have played with them a little, I have made them out of baleing twin and fishing weights and they worked fairly well. I am pretty good at hitting fence posts, but the bunnies are stil safe. I think they are pretty effective with eough practice.

I have also heard of a throwing stick and a caveman throwing star they seem like they would work well. They are about 2-3 feet long with a point on the ends known as a pommel point or skull crusher.

the way i do them, i leave them about 2.5' long, 2' dia at one end, 1-1.5 or so at the other and then flattened on the sides. ends blunted conical and edges about 45deg blunted bevel. this develops a good and strong crushing edge and tips, gives it a comfortable fit in m hand and it works. not quite a branch, not qute a kylie/non-returning boomerang [and let's not get into a symantic debate about the correctness of the terms :D]

it's two or more weights attached by cordage and thrown in a rotating manner to stun or entangle prey.

Ic. Like a rabbit stick but with string instead of wood?

sort of, yes. as mentioned above, they have the added benefit of entanglement. on larger animals like ruminants they are used to entangle the legs specifically and have historically even been used on cattle.

Don't think it would be very practical unless you were in a open area..
