Hi,

Thanks for the great resource!

I've noticed a problem that you may be able to help me with. I read your forums using the RSS reader "Google Reader". I use newsrob on an Android device when I'm mobile.

I've noticed that in either reader I can't follow the link back to wsf.

How to reproduce...

on chrome browser go to www.wilderness-survival.net Click on the little RSS icon thingy and subscribe to the feed using google reader.

Using google reader look at a list of the article in the forum.
Pick an interesting one and click on the title to follow it back to wilderness-survival.net

I've been told by one of the newsreader developers that it might be a problem dealing with the html link stuff.

thanks

Chris has to have RSS syndication turned on and I don't know whether he does or not. He'll have to answer that. In the interim, here's some additional info.

The feeds are currently provided in two formats, RSS and RSS v2. The differences are as follows:

RSS 0.91 - This feed is based on a standard written by netscape and provides a link and the title of the thread.
http://www.wilderness-survival.net/forums/external.php?type=rss
RSS 2.0 - This feed contains title, author, date and the contents of the first post of the thread.
http://www.wilderness-survival.net/forums/external.php?type=rss2

The second link gives me a list of threads and a drop down menu for whichever service i want to use to view,, Like Google and live bookmarks....

I need screenshots or copies of the exact URLs that supposedly are not working.

Chris,

There isn't a URL really because the link wilderness survival forum feeds back to the browser is broken. To see what's happen do this....

Go to http://www.wilderness-survival.net I use Chrome or Dolphin browser. You can try firefox.

Click on the square orange RSS thingie on the address bar.

Subscribe to wilderness survival using google reader (you need a gmail account).

go to http://www.google.com/reader and sign in

Click on one of the articles

Get the link broken error

Rick,

The RSS syndication Feed is turned on (but maybe unconfigured) because I get the little orange RSS thingie in the adress bar.

If you don't want to use Google Reader or create a gmail account Rick has shown me an easier way to reproduce the error.

Click on either of his two URLs

http://www.wilderness-survival.net/f...l.php?type=rss

Or

http://www.wilderness-survival.net/f....php?type=rss2

then pick (and click on) an article. You get the same error I see using Google

thanks folks for looking into this

Seems to be working. I'll test over the next couple of days and let you know if I break anything.

Thanks for your help and for the site.

really? its working now?

I made a bunch of edits to the file thinking it'd fix it... but then I thought I had failed because when it checked it didn't seem to be fixed.

... must have been cached which is why I didn't see it happen.

These edits were manual edits, so they could break in future upgrades, bug me again if it stops working.
