A hat is essential for a survival kit. What type of hat do you recommend for survival kit? I have a Campmor Power Beanie (http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=24730647&memberId=12500226&storeId=226&catalogId=40000000226&langId=-1) in my kit.
It depends on the weather. I will usually have either a balaclava, beanie when it's colder. Boonie hat in the warmer season. I change my hats when I change my seasonal clothes in my kit.

i'm a bandana man, though i have a nice polartec lined wool peruvian type hat for cold weather that works incredibly well wet.
when it's cold; ear flaps = key.
a wide brimmed hat is of course valuable in intense or sun exposure.

Thought we discussed this before! Bandanas, boonie hats, or wide-brimmed hats all have their place. The thing I've noticed lately is that a lot of the Survival Books show a guy picking up his smoldering tinder and blowing on it to produce flame. (OUCH!) The problem that I see there is one can burn themselves quite handily. I've alwaysused my wide---brimmed hat to fan the spark into a flame.

Sorry Sarge... I looked and did not find anything. My browser is not refreshing like it should, so it may not have shown up. Please merge it with the other thread.

I'll worry about it later. That thread was regarding "Trademarks", this one about "Survival".
For winter I use a Fleece Balaclava and a Felt hat , in the summer it the Boonie hat or a bandanna and cap

It all depends on the weather, I thick Boonie cap is great for the rain or fall.
A beanie for the winter or ski mask. or a bandanna or a baseball cap in the summer.
I once traded for two thick raccoon skins. Yep, took the two skins and made a heck of a god hat, with fold down ear covers. Warm, it was too warm. Georgia's coldest winter wasn't cold enough for this hat, traded it to a gent up north, where it gets real cold.

i always wear (always being +40 to -25) a kakadu bushranger , wide brimmed leather hat. love the quality sweatband but the hats really more of a style thing then a survival issue.
