We're setting up a table at on of the gun/knife shows in December. Everybody is donating one knife to raise some money so that we can put on our own show. There really are some talented makers in the club. Saturday we're getting together and a few of them are going to hold a "school" on grinds and installing guards. Woo Hoo! More learning! Here are a few pics from tonights meeting.

Gee Willikers. If I owned any of those I'd never use them. They are just too purdy to get dirty. Or as we like to say...too purdy to dirty...(actually, I just made that up but it fits me, too).

That folder is really impressive! I would really like to make a donation to the cause tomorrow (when I get back from hunting) to go towards the pool. Seein' as you donated a really nice set of blades to my kit, I think it's the least I can do. It won't be much, but I hope it will help some.
Learning is fun, and if I can help in this small way, it will be an honor.
(Also, I really like seeing the knives you make.. getting better all the time!)

Unfortunatrly craftmanship is going by the wayside. But its good to know that it isnt dead. I would hope that some young person is taking notes.

Yeah, old codgers like Crash and Poncho are a dying breed, that's for sure.

yes; the custom knife world is one of a breed of places where the bar of craftsmanship and finish is perpetually being raised... to a height i don't think i'll ever reach.

I like that folder as well. I wish I had some makers club close by.

Crash I want to ask you about the big knife in the first pick. I am just wondering. Is the blade jeweled or is it a blank that he put the handles on. There is nothing wrong about doing kit knives. I was just wondering. I have never seen a blade jeweled like that. I have a gunsmith buddy at work and he installed a trigger and hammer on his colt 1911 and he jeweled them himself. I wondered if that would work on a blade. How does the jeweling look in person? I think it would give a hollographic look, am I correct? That coupled with the handle work make a very nice piece.

No kit knives pictured. He does the jeweling himself using diamond dust.

Well it looks cool on the blade. I need to find a tutorial on how to do that.

I may play around with it (trial and error). I was thinking of using a paper hole punch on some 800 grit emory paper and then glue the "hole" to a dowl of the same diameter. I'll let you know how it works.
