I just pulled these from their second tempering cycle. They are all 1084. The quench lines are higher than I like so I will have to draw the spine out, I'll clean them up first and make sure they "ring". The three hidden tangers are headed for PA and NJ while the other is staying local.

I hope to post a few finished over the next week or two. Thanks for looking!

You can get 1950°F out of your oven?! I'd sure hate to see what cookies look like when you get done.

I'll bet he can get 2250°F out of his! I think that is the top range on mine. Cookies are done 15 seconds before you put them in!

That's getting to the point if you add water it's converted to H and O2 and just feeds the fire!!!!!

It a kiln not an oven, but that is some hot stuff. You are right Camp I think that is the high range of my kiln as well. It was a little funner with the coal forge, but the oven has so much better control that it makes up for it. Hmmm... Now what is the recipe for those kiln cookies? Mmmmmm...

Get yourself some stainless steel foil and wrap those blades before you heat them. This will save you many hours of clean up work.

Yep, thats what I used, but man that stuff cost alot. I am gonna look for some in bulk.

Camp do you use a torch to draw back the spine or another heat source?

ENCO is the best place I have found for it.

Yes, I use a torch. I usually try to get the quench so that I dont have to take them back but I missed with at least two of these. When I am only doing one knife, I try to put some sort of metering block into the oil so that the knife can only get deep enough to quech the edge.

As for the foil..I'm not sure it would work in the forge and I still do most of my plain carbon blades in it.
