Good for you! I was stationed at Elmendorf in the late 1900's...'78-'80. Communications center in the basement of the command building, Aero Station, elephant cage, etc.

Is Chilkoot Charlie's or The Roadhouse (where the grass grows over your head and not under your feet!) still open?

I still tell people that I climbed Mt McKinley...not to the top- just up to the visitors center!

I know Chilkoot's is still open not sure of about the Roadhouse. I still have not seen McKinley and I have been here since 2008. Now I have plenty of time to see it though.

Are you thinking of the "Bird House" in Bird Creek south of Los Anchorage.......? If so it burned down years ago, and is now a transmission repair place. But Coots is still cooking, and "The Bush Company."

I bet you have. You can see it on clear days from Anchorage.

East of Merrill Field. If you know where Cheney Lake is then you're in the right ballpark.

I knew a lot of Army guys that had been stationed in Alaska. To a man, they all wanted to return.

My wife has 14 years before that would happen. I doubt we will make it that long. I got out in 2009 so I have until 70 it looks like.
