I carry a sturdy "rat trap" that has an eye screw at the spring end that is anchored/tethered with a piece of wire.
I figure if its good enough for a rat it will be good for Chipmunks, ground squirels and such sized small game.
I use it around the house to control mice/voles and such works good so far, I use peanut butter smeared on the lever.

Been using rat traps for years. They are great for gray and red squirrels too.

When I ran a trap line in Idaho, I had 2 dozen rat traps for ermine. They also work good for squirrels.

Been have my "trap line" up a going in my garage for the past week or so.
Averaging about three a day.
Put one mouse trap on the compost bin, something took the bait and the trap, so I just replace it with a rat trap, screwed down to the back of it.......so we will see.

I like peanut butter as bait, as well.

carefull might catch a wife or two ... then you would be really stuck.

On a side note rat traps by themselves are not effective means of catching rats. One has to use multiple and different methods and baits to get rid of rats, they are just that smart.

I drilled 5/16" holes in the base of my rat traps so I can tie them to a tree even have them in my BOB also have mouse traps for running perimeter trip wire as intruder alert
