This post comes a few weeks after the fact, but may serve as a heads up for some of you.

When Hurricane Earl was working its way up the coast, I brought one of my small generators over to Mom's house to keep the fridge, TV, and a few lights going in case the power went out.

Of course, Mom asked if the generator could keep her neighbor's fridge running too. It could, but I had to go back home and pick up another 250' of extension cords to make it happen. And then it dawned on me......

In several storms over the years, I let neighbors hook up to my large generator to keep their refrigerators and a few lights working. Back then, I had more extension cords than I could count. Before Earl arrived, I was down to about 8 - like 600' worth of them.

So, I just stocked up on a bunch of heavy gauge extension cords, as well as 3' 3-gang cord tails.

Check your supplies. Do you have enough heavy gauge extension cords on hand?

Yep, I have about 150 feet of heavy gauge cords. But my generator is portable and I load it on a trailer and carry it to the neighbors when they need help.
