This is the method I use to field dress and prepare most fur-bearing wild game for cooking. The process changes slightly for deer due to size, weight and time constraints. It can be applied to pretty much any 4 legged furry critter with only slight modifications for the best results.

Of course there's a hundred ways to skin a cat, so I won't say this is the best method, but it is the best method for me and I've tried quite a few.

In reality, except for venison, I don't "field dress" them at all, which is simply opening them up and removing the guts. I wait to get home and then I skin, field dress and quarter all in one sitting.

If an animal is gut shot I field dress it immediately upon retrieval. But, I take great efforts not to allow that to happen.

Nice video. This is the method, I use as well, for deer, and antelope (smaller game species)when I harvest less than a couple of miles from the truck or atv. It is definetly the quickest and most efficent way to deal with a kill when hunting near roads.

BTW, I just field dress deer, i.e. gut 'em, and drag em out. But, I venture further and further in every year and may end up quartering one out this season and packing it out in a trip or two.
