Florida Woman Bags Big Gator With Crossbow
[Arianne] Prevost, 23 . . . claimed the 11-foot gator at about 9 p.m. Tuesday in marshland between Lake Washington and Lake Winder.

[Her guide Capt. Peter] Deeks said the gator wasn't weighed, but based on its girth he estimated it between 400 and 450 pounds. He estimated its age at about 30 years old.
"It was a total archery kill," Deeks said, adding Prevost shot the gator several times with a crossbow and finished it with a broadhead. Prevost is having the meat harvested and the gator half-mounted.

After all, it was her first noteworthy kill of any kind.

Looks as though this gator could swallow Prevost in one bite, right?

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- A Massachusetts woman has a remarkable souvenir to take back home from South Carolina.

Maryellen Mara-Christian bagged a 13½-foot 1,025-pound alligator in Lake Moultrie. Mara-Christian said Friday that she is an experienced hunter, but this was her first gator.

The 48-year-old former bank marketing officer from Fitchburg, Mass., was hunting Wednesday with her husband, who is a firefighter and a part-time hunting guide. It took about two hours to secure the gator before they could shoot it.

The .22-caliber gun they used wasn't powerful enough to put the animal down, so Mara-Christian used a knife to sever the alligator's spinal cord.

Meat processor Steve Drummond said the gator had so much fat that only about 40 pounds was usable meat. He will stuff the animal for Mara-Christian to display.

Probably 40lbs of mostly tail tenderloin. Big gators have a real swampy flavor that is mostly attributed to the fat.

The 13 footer looks farm raised, its so fat.

Farm raised?!

Well, slick, how many head of gator have you got?

Hard to say, really. We brought about 200 head down out of the high country for winter but there's stranglers a plenty still out there.

Farm raised....sheeeesh. Only in the south.
