This explosion came with no warning. Watching the news reports this morning - 54 homes completely destroyed and 120 damaged. To these people, TSHTF. No zombie apocalypse, no roving bands of ner-do-wells, no world collapse necessitating the need to live on a mountain in a debris hut. Having a bug out bag with copies of all of your important papers in it may be extremely helpful. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100910/ap_on_re_us/us_large_explosion

Excellent point Crash, also may be prudent to have copies at a geographically seperate location. I think I mentioned before that twice a year, my sister (upstate NY) and I exchange CDs with copies of "important stuff" . Copies are not as good as an original, but are better than nothing.

Since I am working away from home, I now keep a copy of the important stuff at my trailer. Nice to not have to wait until I get home if I need something, and nice to have a separately located back-up. Before this, I used to keep spare hard-copies in my locker at work as well as a spare hard-drive at my MIL's home (which we still do). Harddrive also has a back-up of all the family photos on it. I really like having a scanner and full copy of Adobe PDF.
