im a believer of the saying "never go anywhere without a good blade" so i have a pocket knife that i carry with me everywhere. its a smith and wesson MP (http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=SWMP1BSD) i have had it for about 3 years now and just about two months ago the spring for the assisted opening wore out. its still a great knife but its not as durrable as i would like. so im thinking about looking for another one. any ideas? the blade has to be 3" long or less. one that i found that looks ok but i really dont know anything about is a buck folder, http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=BU395CMS9
does anyone know whether thats a good one? thanks in advance guys

I'm not familiar with that knife but Buck has a lifetime warranty.

I've owned a few Buck folders, but not that one. Why the 3" limit? Law or preference?

I've never found a bad Buck. I dont know that knife but I have an older Buck folder and used it for many hunting seasons back before I started making my own knives. I dont think you will be disappointed.

For a little extra you can get a Benchmade 551. I have owned bucks, spydercos, Kershaws, etc..... This knife is perfect for me. It is the knife I have carried the longest. I swap it sometimes for another but always come back to this one. I have owned buck and I alway manage to break the tips off. I love bucks though. You can find deals on these on bladeforums for sale area. http://www.benchmade.com/products/551

My Dad has the Omini fixed blade hunter. I jokingly asked him if that came in a mans knife as well. Didn't go over very well. LMAO

Since you liked the assisted opener. I would recommend a waved folder. Smaller blade would be the waved Delica. This is the fastest deploying folder your gonna find.

I carry the Endura as my strong side EDC.

law, you cant carry a folding knife with over 3" blade length in michigan. i believe switchblades are also illegal but again thats just what ive heard.

the knife i had before the s&w mp was the gerber paraframe, somehow i lost it. i went to class with it in my pocket and 2 hours later when i got back to the dorms i found that it wasnt in my pocket anymore. it was nearly heartbreaking. thats another one that im considering getting, just to replace the one i lost.

If you're not sold on an assisted opener, the various Swiss Army Knives have proven to be extremely useful tools.

Just to have a knife I can carry anywhere, anytime, I have this one. I have it for about 22 years now and although it is being used almost every day it is still in perfect condition

Don't buy cheap if you can afford it. "Penny wise pound foolish" as they say across the big herring pond

Interesting law. Apparently, Michigan has outlawed the double edged knife unless it is made from stone.

That is odd... It's good that I can carry any shape or form of a knife, if I need it. I cannot carry anything that can be used as a weapon, in public, without a reason. For example a construction worker can carry a knife around even on a lunch break and so on, because he needs it at his work... In the woods, I can carry a 10 foot sword if I like to.

well i finnally got around to getting a new folding knife. i went on the cheaper side but it looks pretty good for the price. it feels good in my hands. the down side was that it didnt come very sharp, i sharpened it right away though. it fits my needs, the 3 inch blade requirement, and my budget.

What's that for?

i bet you money you could carry a 12" folder if you wore it openly.

in california, any folding knife not covered in 653k (switchblades, etc) can be concealed on one's person as long as it is not lockable, and currently locked in the open position. took me a while to work out the sense of the wording on that one, and i have no idea how case law stands on the matter.

im pretty sure that the original intention for that blade type is for fighting, but im probably never going to use it for that. i was just looking for an edc knife and this one looked like it would do. i tend to side with the idea of never going anywhere without a good blade.

i hear you on that one. i've been asked not to come back to certain stores because i wear a belt knife.

Buck is a great brand, but I always hated how hard they were. If I was to buy a Buck knife, I would definitely buy a Lansky style diamond sharpener to go along with it. With a combination like that I think you will be very happy.
