I am working slowly on this one. I used hunter orange cause it was the only scales of the proper size I had. It still has alot of work left to do but I am exited about it. It is a simple friction folder knife. By no means a master piece, but a bruthas gotta learn some how.

I am afraid that what I have learned so far is that I need more machines.:(

So, you made this knife yourself? I am impressed, do you have more pictures or a link to any other threads you have that are more detailed?

I have a bunch of knives posted in this sub forum. This one is the first folding blade that I have gotten this far to completion. I have done some more work to this one and all I need to do is sharpen her up. I will post the finished pics tomorrow.I am tickled pink! Thanks!

Hey, Welcome to the forums. Go over to the intro section and tell us about yourself.

Nice Frank! It's about time you got into folders! +1 on the machines...It's not so bad if you buy precision ground steel and make sure the drill press is true with the rest.

Here is the finished knife. It is my first so it is rough around the edges.

Very cool, I like the shape of the blade.
I glad y'all are keeping the craft alive, seems all the commercial companies are being bought up by the Chinese.

Thanks crash! These type of folders are not much harder than fixed blades to make, not that that is easy. Now slip joints and liner locks are just crazy tuff and I cringe when I think of attempting one of those.

I'm not even close to wanting to make one yet. After watching a few liner locks and switchblades made, I now understand why the customs are so expensive.

They are worth every penny, with all that is involved.

I etched the blade in ferric chloride today and here are the results.

I'm tellin' ya. There is nothing to dislike about that knife. That is just superb! With the orange scales it looks like it would make a great survival knife. How does the metal work on flint?

That looks great. The best part about making folders is when it is over.

Lol! Isnt that the truth! That is the other reason they cost so much...I groan everytime I get an order for a folder.

Great work Frank!! I'll just start sending my customers to you when they want a folder!!:innocent:

I really do like the way you made the tang into a functional tool as well. I was thinking, you could make this work with a slide in the handle to make a lock for the blade. That would take a little working out, but clearly unique.

Do you mean like a safety on a fire arm? If so I thought about that but don't have an idea how to pull it off yet. Maybe one that you pull turn then push back in new spot. Hmmmmmm....

That would work, or one you slide into the slot, then slide sack to unlock. But that would require a mill i guess.
