Pump Drill

Any of you guys or gals ever made a pump drill or a curved knife for crafting?

We discussed a pump drill for making fire but I think the principle is the same. See what you think.

I used one once at a Creek Pow-Wow but not for fire it had a stone tip. But I've nver made one. The action of it is pretty smooth with a stone tip but I dont know about a wooden spindle (lotsa friction). I guess if the flywheel is heavy enough it should be no prob.
