There were some beautiful knives passed around at last night's meeting. We've got a couple of blacksmiths in the club, and at least one master smith. These were made by a guy that has been smithing for eight years.

Wow, I'm impressed, thanks for the pic's.
Lots of creativity there, like the acid etched iron wood grips.

Thanks for the pics Crash. Got to tell you, that acid treated ironwood is something to see. Is that something they often do to wood or are there only certain woods that react well to the acid?
There's a feller just a few mailes north of me that has done blacksmithing for years. I ran into him at one of the fall festivals last year and learned that he gives classes in the smithing art. Railroad spike knives was one of the first projects he has his students work on. That is after they build their own tongs and pliers and such. Have often thought about his classes but never seem to have time when he's got one going. Getting too old for smithing anyway I think. ahhhh maybe not.:>)

oldtrap btw alot of nice knives in your pics

I had never seen ironwood (or any other kind) treated like that before. I'm hoping to strike up a friendship with a couple of the blacksmiths and learn some from them.

You still can. Just don't get drunk and call them at 2:00 a.m.

That one was made by Johnnie Bowie - yep, he's related. Hopefully I'm going to spend some time with him doing some learning.
