Hey everybody, my name is Asger and im from Denmark. Im a young guy, living in a small town wich is lacking quite alot of nature and wilderness. For those who didn't know, Denmark is a small country in northern europe, the climate is much like Canada, except the wilderness cannot even be compared to it, and nor can the size be. Currently im in high school, i would say im doing fairly well, and have a great social life with some really good mates. What really got me hooked up about survival, nature and wilderness was (yes i know, not one of the best ways) through the Man vs. Wild show on Discovery. It wasn't really the crazy stuff he did, or the nasty things he ate, but more the way nature was - how simple life was, and how beautifull it was. I always enjoyed watching how he made fire, caught food or made his shelter - that was survival to me. I later then started watching Survivorman, wich was much better and more interresting, in my opinion. Into the Wild pretty much confirmed that survival and wilderness was the way to go for me and my life. The best experience i have had in the wilderness was with a friend of mine. His family owns an old house in Sweden, isolated from the city and noise. They also owned a boat, and they lived near a huge river, so we were put on an island, and i had one of the best afternoons of my life there - it was late autumn, but the sun was insanely beautifull. From then, we had a really long winter, wich kept me away from any kind of nature. Now, however, the sun is starting to come back to Denmark, and ive bought some nice gear, one of them being a firesteel, wich im looking forward to try - i have even build a small fireplace in my garden, and i think some day i will try making a shelter out there. I really dont have much experience about survival, my family isn't really 'fit' for survival, i havn't even gone fishing once, but if you don't try, you wont succeed. I love 3 things when having a fire - Bacon, Coffee, and a pipe. Yes - a pipe. My granddad has smoked pipe since he was young, and i simply loved the smell of it - so i tried it once, and i was hooked up. I do know the risks about it, wich is why i rarely do it, but i am simply so fascinated by pipes - well, history generally. Especially vikings, the 'pride' of the north :p. If you want to, i can take some pics of my fireplace and my firesteel once it arrives.

Sorry for the wall of text :blushing:

-Asger.

The Dighton Rock is a 40-ton boulder

http://www.skyweb.net/~channy/dighton1.GIF (http://www.skyweb.net/~channy/dighton1.GIF)

originally located in the riverbed of the Taunton River at Berkley, Massachusetts, (formerly part of the town of Dighton). The Rock is noted for its petroglyphs (http://www.wilderness-survival.net/wiki/Petroglyphs), carved designs of ancient and uncertain origin, and the controversy about their creators.

You wrote: "I really dont have much experience about survival, my family isn't really 'fit' for survival, i havn't even gone fishing once, but if you don't try, you wont succeed."

If you've lived as long as you have, then you've got plenty of "survival skills."
What you're refering to is what outdoors experts like Mors Korchanski refers to as "Bushcraft."(Author of a great book by the same name, BTW.) If you can, get with some like-minded people that are doing those things as this will help you learn. It sounds to me like you have a great place to practice your craft, enjoy & welcome to the Wolf-Pack! :cool2:

Oh yes, that is indeed what i mean. Well, a friend of mine is also interrested in the term 'Bushcraft' and as summer appears, i think we will start getting outside more, and eventually practice our bushcrafting.

Thank you Sarge!

Might be a stupid question - well it is, since as far as i could tell, it was illegal (spelled?) but here i go : Have you ever tried canoing there?

Not personally,, but the Boy scouts do it every year , troops from all over travel here to do it,, I have been through there Many times in power boats and seadoo's,, Here is a Google satellite link http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=topock+gorge&sll=35.24358,-96.076819&sspn=37.037147,66.09375&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Topock+Gorge&ll=34.645495,-114.451275&spn=0.036789,0.064545&t=h&z=14

Nothing Illegal about it ? where did you hear that ? In fact, on 3 day weekends there is too much boat traffic,, LOL

Velkommen hjem.

Very nice :D

And yea, same here in Denmark, over Easter we have really had some nice sunny days, only a few raindays in between - it was easier than ever to make a fire with all the branches dried out, compared to winter!

Welcome. I would suggest some travel and learn to make friends with a local to help you out where ever you go. Don't just dream and read about life, live it!

Indeed, these kind of forums and communitys are nearly impossible to find on the web these days.
