Been lurking for a few weeks, decided to speak up. I'm retired Navy, trying to get back to the woods from the cities. Up in Duluth, Mn. right now, hope to be in Indiana next year, in a more acceptable climate, at least for me. Hope to learm quite a bit from all of you out there.

I plan on moving to the Bass Lake area in Starke County. Uncle still lives in the 105 year old family farm.

Well jeepers de dang there Corndog. You're sittin' in the middle of the gold field. Sashay over to Adams Mill and start pannin'. You'll find sluices and dredges workin' the Wildcat on any given week-end. Well, during the warm weather, anyway.

Hey Rick! I know about Adams Mill...before moving here in Cass County I lived in Carroll County for about 27 years. I was born and raised on a farm in Fountain County. I mean I was born on the farm, right there in the farm house. Just a good ol Indiana backcountry boy:D.

Down stream from the bridge on the south side is some good (relative term I suppose) panning. You can sluice almost below the bridge. The water is pretty shallow in there on the south side. I found a petrified mud dauber's nest there last year. Crazy. It took a moment before I could figure out what the heck it was.

West of there, just west of Covington, west side of the Wabash and back north on 63 is a place called Two Bridges. Some decent panning there, too. More sluicing there than at Adams Mill. Hard to find a time a dredge isn't running in there.

Main job was as a diesel mechanic, but did almost everything in the engineering department on the ship, for low pressure steam to making fresh water. A carrier, 2 guided missile destroyers, and a guided missile frigate. Loved being at sea, but missed watching my son grow up, but it goes with the job choice.
