yeah, that would be pretty cool to have.
I have one of these. Pretty convenient for measuring longer distances, but NOT on a map.

For maps, I've used one of the flexible rulers.

Interesting. Looks smarter them me though..
While those are pretty handy, you can do the same thing with a piece of string and a ruler. If you don't have a ruler then use a $1 dollar bill. It's six inches long. Fold it if you need shorter measurements.

Well, I figured he should know what six inches looks like for cryin' out loud. That's his shoe size.
