I just cooked a pound of bacon,, But, Instead of placing the strips in the frying pan, I cut the Bacon into about 2" pieces, (Bacon Chips if you will) anyway, It cooked more evenly and much faster, AND was able to do the whole pound at once in the same pan ,, So now it a couple of bacon Sandwiches w/ a little mustard and a tall glass of cold milk :tongue_smilie::tongue_smilie:

another Bacon question,

How long do you think cooked bacon will keep on the trail, do you think it would keep like jerky if its cooked crisp ?

A whole pound of Bacon?!?

I usually use three pounds of thick slab bacon and six pounds of drained clams - I add some clam juice and bacon grease back to the pot. Recipe makes about 5 quarts. And NO potatos. :innocent:

Sure am. Born and raised on New England Clam Chowder at the gateway to Cape Cod and Newport, R.I. Just say this is my improved recipe. A few restaurant owners and several friends beg me to make it for them. So there! :tt2:

Tell me that AFTER you try it. :sneaky2:

In the early 90's. I was hosting a contingent from Abu Dhabi around the southeast. Every place we ordered, they asked if the food had pork in it. Once, one of them ordered Clam Chowder and asked the question. The waitress returned after consulting the kitchen folks and answered in the affirmative. Yes, it had pork fat in it. Having lived in near Boston for a few years as a kid, I was shocked.

Which one? The canned bacon cooks almost like any other kind, It's greasy when you open the can. If you cook bacon at home and pack it for the trail, it can go bad fairly quickly if it's hot out. I'd eat it the same day it was cooked.

And then, there's always

Yeah, but they're yankees.....and besides...if you put diamonds on a turd, you've made a better looking turd, but it's still a waste of diamonds.:sneaky2:

Justin - If you screen the bacon fat through a coffee filter it will not only last for eternity, it makes great candles. No smell at all and if you trim the wick correctly...no smoke.
