Yeah I use a sling! and I'm good at scaring ppl on the other side of the lake with it cuz I can throw well over a quarter mile with a good rock or big marble, and you better believe it. but not at hitting anything small, so for me it's basically a toy.

Rabbit stick? to me it's just a stick but I'm not an aborigine. It works great on anything rabbit sized or smaller if you can hit them with it. fun for squirrel counting competitions :)

I made one out of old jeans and some twine. Still practicing with it but when I do it right the velocity of the stone is incredable.

I tried the rabbit sticks and scored a few times but seem to do better with a rock, not worth a dang with a sling but I have been playing with a bolo I made out of fishing weights, right now I am experimenting with 50# mono and baleing twine as I always have both I have gotten so I can wrap up a fence post pretty good but nothing live yet,but I reckon it's like everything else practice a lot before you give up

I've play with a rabbit stick a bit and can score now and then. I was taught there is a specific trick to the stick. Point your non throwing hand at the target as an aim point and bring the stick over your shoulder so it points at a 45 degree angle. As you throw, release the stick when your throwing hand reaches the non throwing hand. Hope that made sense. Anyway, that was the way I was taught. It does seem to improve your aim.

Slings? Nope. I always thought that was why something better was invented. I've tried it a time or two but I'm as dangerous to myself and anyone around me as I am to the target I want to hit.

It has been a wile cents I ask about slings or rabbit sticks . So I thought I would dig this one out and dust it off to see what any of the new people had to say

Went to college with a Zulu guy from South Africa back in the 70s. He could kill a rabbit every time (at least every time I saw him throw it) at about 100 feet. He said his sons were much better at it than he was and were able to hit a rabbit at twice that distance.

Wow, that's pretty impressive.

I've used a sling numerous times, and can throw pretty far. However, it just isn't very accurate.

Yeah. Me, too. I could have been a major league baseball pitcher but I couldn't throw very fast or very accurate. Could have been a major league basketball player, too. I'm just too short too bad of a shot.

On the serious side. Using a sling to hit small game is pretty difficult for most folks. Fill the pouch with gravel instead of a single rock. I will act more like a shotgun instead of a rifle.

I agree Rick, only thing I'm slinging is the shot from the end of my shotgun :D

Slings should be registered instead of firearms.

Rick

Don't need to, Coot. Most of us are more a danger to ourselves that to other with 'em.:D

Once my slingshot backfired...... don't even ask how but it did. I think the rock was placed awkwardly, and hit (and bounced off of) the handle, and came back at me.

Rick

When I was a kid my Goliath turned out to be the neighbor's window!

Apparently, we belong in the same sling shooting club then reb, been there :D

I've never hit a window w/ a slingshot. However, those glass doors in front of the actual doors are a different story.....

Why do some people even put a glass door in front of the real one? It makes very little sense.

It's an American thing. See, we put up fake doors in front of real doors to fake out folks from Finland. Oh, and those darn Ruskies, too. I don't know how many I've seen get trapped between them.

Okay, enough fun. Insulation. The dead air space between prevents the inner door from becoming hot or cold so it doesn't transfer the cold or hot air inside.

or sometimes it's just for the ambiance of an open door without letting all kinds of flies and such inside, as in the screen doors with glass panes in them.

Has any one tried a fling.....do'nt laugh.. I'm for real, a limber stick about three feet long and small green fruit, percimons, scupernogs and small green peaches . Stick the fruit on the end of the stick and whip it. you can get tremendous velocity and with a little practice fair accuracy have taken quail like this at times.

One thing for sure all the nuts ain't in the woods. You all need to stand in a big circle and fling all those goodies at a target in the middle. I would volunteer to be the target. I guess it wouldn't take long til I was the only one standing, after all some people shouldn't be allowed to reproduce.

I am new to the survival and wilderness community here, although I have been slinging for about a year and a half now and have gotten pretty good with accuracy, but i did end up conking myself in the head during the early stage of practice

Well I searched also for slingshots and found vid. about this phenomenal man... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ieWrWLjii0&feature=related He can even cut grass by hitting it from 3-4meters distance or hitting coin in the air when using his slingshot! BTW he is 65..

Seems like every time I start to heal up a bit somebody comes up with something I hurt myself with awhile back. Well Folks, I ain't gonna fall for it this time. NO slings, NO throwing sticks, no trips to the ER. I quit!!!

I made a sling yesterday and tried it today... well I'm impressed the velocity and rage this weapon has but I'm disappointed with accuracy... Does any one knows few accuracy tips using this weapon? BTW I thrown about 150m~500ft. but I read that some could throw at least twice as that or even more... How do they do it?

I'm not really sure how you're going to do the improvements Rokas, but I'd think that the distance doesn't matter until you've got the accuracy down.

As far as improving accuracy --- practice, practice, practice.

I have made 2 slings so far, as well as a number of various projectiles ranging from stout wooden darts, to ice balls. I plan on making a Greek variation of the sling, called a cestophendon, or cestros, which is supposed to throw foot long bolts well over a half-mile.

Rick
07-12-2008, 07:51 AM
So that's where those ice balls have been coming from.

So you're the one ! $7000 estimate on the wife's car, my truck is totaled, have to get a new roof and my closest neighbor's roof plus his truck, Lincoln Navigator and RV. We have the same insurance agent so I guess he will be in touch. Confession is good for the soul but your wallet is gonna be flat:eek::eek:
