Every one does such nice work here, and I injoy seeing the work and time put in.
I have been working on rebuilding some of my "keep in a drawer for years" knives, making sheaths and such, and I came across this one.

The First Knife I ever made, right before the garden knife.

Again a power hack saw blade, but no heat treat, just ground and there you go.
Sheath is made from the top of the boot, with the pull up strap for a belt loop, guess I was recycling 35+ years ago, LOL

Anyway................

Oh, man. Pretty darn good "first". I like it. I am curious. You guys that use antler handle knives. Don't those knurls in the antler play havoc with your hand? I don't have one so I don't really know.

LOL, yeah, I know, but that was a long time ago, and I'm sure that if I was to make one now, it would be pretty much the same.

I guess I would rather watch and enjoy y'alls work, getting old and lazy I guess.
As Red Green would say, "If you ain't good looking, be handy".
It does go to show that if I can do one, anybody can.

Rick,
yeah, contrary to popular belief, antlers aren't really the best for a tool, mostly for looks.

Even the commercial knives have some of the little nobs cut down.
Looks cool though, just like the old Rambo knives "looked cool", but as far as being practical, not so much.

Some pic's I have seen of old mountain man knives, basically a butcher knife were just wrapped with raw hide, or had scales made from wood or leather, just riveted on.
Not pretty, just functional.
Not mine, but supposed to be(?) from the 1830's

No, actually a industrial power hack saw blade, 'bout 1'1/4 " wide.

I'm glad you posted that last picture. That isn't what I had pictured for the leather handle. I can see what you mean now. Thanks!!
