Hi Folks

Well I made a sheath for my new knife and figured I would go with horizontal carry this time.

Here are a couple of pics:

I find that this style of sheath is fairly comfortable as long as you dont go too long of a knife (9" seems to be my limit)

Also dont drive for a long time with it or it digs into your back.

Walking around with it I pretty much forgot it was there and it only printed a little under my long overshirt. Under a coat it is invisible.

Draw is fairly fast but I will need practice. Putting it in its sheath nearly takes me both hands.

Seems to be secure with the two snaps and the sheath all but envelopes the knife completely.

Anyways just wanted to share my experience.

I tried that once, very uncomfortable for me. Was not all that bad around front but everybody knew you had it. Finally decided to go the trad. way, if it shows, it shows.

I dont see a need to carry a knife horizontally, it looks uncomfortable to me.

I've carried a knife this way before and drawing is fast but its uncomfortable, i prefer the traditional carry. Also see ya got a case of no butt... lol... jk nice sheath though.

I like the idea, but it seems to be too much of a hassle as is. Could you adapt it so it could swivel down and/or with enough effort, detach without it taking your pants off? How about having it open from the top side and have an area that doesn't entirely surround the handle so you could get it in and out easier, or trim the original opening with a curve on either side of the snaps?

as for your horizontal carrying position
one advantage would be when in a sitting position
although, with a backpack on, drawing in this position could be a chore
for myself
i prefer the standard belt carry or along the calf

Kid I saw a self help article in one of the knife mags and they tok a basic sheath and placed a wideloop near the topand sewn to the edge of the sheath it was canted and was ambodextres , I tried it and it worked very well, the knife was out of the way. I cary some smal fixed blades in kydex to which I rig the atachment to ride horozontal slightly toward the draw side.

Awww Bear Grylls wears his this way

[Ducking for cover now]

I have thought of the calf carry for EDC use but dont know if I can do it in a way that is secure and comfortable.
