Carbon Dioxide.

I've been trying to locate CO2 for preserving and came accross these, thought they might be a source of CO2 to pipe into preserving jars. Any thoughts.

with the tablets you have to use a diffuser to dissolve the tablets. They are made for aquatic environment. I suppose if you used them in liquid it might work but I don't think they would work for dry canning. You're wanting to replace the oxygen, right?

Some one correct but I think you'll have to use the gas or something that will sublimate like dry ice. You might also try nitrogen gas.

I would opt for the dry ice method unless you have acess to bottled nitrogen.

Goodoh! I preferred the original series made in the 70's. Another one you might like is the Day of the Triffids, a two or three parter made by the BBC for Christmas.

Honestly you wouldn't believe the trouble I'm having getting ANYTHING to help me with long term storage! Dry Ice- nope, Carbon Dioxide- in large cylinders only £40+, oxygen absorbers-still looking. I can't even find one of those foodsaver vacuum lid sealers!

Have you talked to the dry ice providers in the UK? There are several according to Google. I don't know what kind of price they charge and some have minimum purchases of 10Kg, which is quite a bit of dry ice.

Yup, I've done that Rick, the minimum order for most of them is 5kg if you collect, 25kg for delivery. I'll keep looking though. Not to worry, I'll keep looking, I will store long term!!(eventually)
