    Lightbulb wood burn-bowl, spoon, ETC

so I have been looking around how to make a coal-burn bowl or spoon, but extremely fast. I have looked and found nothing so instead I looked at what makes a burn-bowl a burn-bowl, and what the methods are. And I think I have made a new method by using a magnifying-glass to do it. I have found the results the same as coal burning a spoon, but way faster. With-out counting the whittling, staining, and sealing the wood it took me about 3-4 hours including cleaning out the ashes.
If this is not a new method please tell me and if so what it is called either way tell me what you guys think pls. I will try posting a pic of the spoon soon. Also I must note I live with in the top 5 sunniest place in the U.S. so it might not work as well in other places.
Oh, and my magnifying glass is about 5-5.5 in. in dia.

    Cool. Laser carving.
I had a compass, but without a map, it's just a cool toy to show you where oceans and ice are.

No, not that I'm aware of. I never heard of magnifying glass carving. It seems very laser like though.

I'd bet with the right magnification equipment you could carve pretty intricately. A wire brush for the ash and you could do some really cool carvings of simple tools without needing a knife.

I wonder if you could boil water with just a magnifying glass?

Wrote my name on a board many years ago with my magnifying glass, big one used for stamp collection.

I can see where a bowl or spoon would be workable.

Sounds interesting but I can't possibly see how this could be faster than coal burning??

Only ones I've made I never got as far as staining and sealing, and after drying they cracked. But for quick emergency containers they worked good

Winters right though. You could probably made amazing work that way.

Interesting, I recently scrapped out a projection TV and it has a huge magnifier I may play around with this a little .
