First Treat of the Season
I have a very small strawberry garden on the east side of my house and was forced to pick some today. I have probably 2 or 3 times as many that are red but just not red enough to pick. The sad part is my wife is attending a conference this week in Kansas City and I'll be forced to eat them all by myself. Ice cream will be included, of course. I guess the only thing left to say is, "Get in my belly!"

I feel sorry for you having to eat those all by yourself! haha... I wish my plants would start putting off some fruits.

The little strawberry seedlings we planted last year were not happy. Two survived and seem to like their new home.
This is the third year for mine and it seems it's going to be a banner one. Mine are Ozark Beauties. They bear all summer long. All different sizes depending on the specific plant. Some plants put out really large ones. Other plants are just lazy I guess. I put out 25 plants I think and lost about a half dozen the first year. The rest are doing well.
My black currant bush is loaded with green currants as well. Once they ripen it should be a good year for those, too. Can you say tart? I knew you could.

We've had a few tomatoes, bell peppers and jalapeno peppers so far. We'll soon be in the "inundated" phase of our tomatoes. I'll snap some pictures later.
The strawberry patch was raided yesterday. Small, sneaky varmints that ate what they wanted and discarded what didn't taste good. Those white colored strawberries aren't very sweet, apparently. Three of the grand kids, including a two year old made the successful commando assault. Looks like only two berries got stepped on so they did pretty good all in all.

There is no better expenditure of strawberries than on select vermin.
