    Erect dichotomously branched annual. lightly pubescent, often ridged or angled. Leaves spatulate and entire, pubescent. 5 petaled flowers, with 5 stamens aligned alternately from petals, occurring in square paired cymes, subtended by 2 opposite bracts. Pistil elongates into a "beak"

    young leaves are edible as a salad green or potherb. due to it's low growing nature, it is recommended to wash before eating. Gather the young leaves before flowers appear for best taste. similar taste to portulaca.
