your_comforting_company 18 Jan, 2010	showy red flower spikes with distinct shape of 3 lower petals with three curved upper petals. Found along creeks, streams, and ponds (wet sandy areas). Flowers in late summer. Oval-lance shaped leaves, toothed, dark green above, paler beneath.
